Yes, my blog title is a play on the famous line spoken by the Starks on Game of Thrones (“Winter is Coming”). Which by the way I’ve just started watching from the beginning. My best friend and my sister got me into the show and I must admit, it is pretty amazing Thank goodness we have them all on DVD to, as I’m hoping one day to binge watch all of the episodes.
Running has become little by little easier again for me. I’ve been sticking to daily runs of no longer than 3 miles until I can complete a run without any kind of discomfort whatsoever. I still get slight pain in my adductor from time to time, but running has now gone from hurting it to helping it. In addition to only doing three miles, I’m also running at a slower pace than I normally do. My average pace is anywhere between 10:15-10:45 depending on how the run goes. But it’s been a tad higher than that recently until my leg is ready to maintain my normal pace. I have played with some speed work a bit as well, bringing my pace up to 9:50-10:10, but I try to keep it at a minimum. My concern is losing the trained muscle fibers in my legs that help me maintain my endurance during long runs. I have to keep up with myself.
With summer coming up this week, it brings me closer to the start of marathon training. Come August 1st, I’ll be on a running schedule right up until race day, which is November 20th. 5 months may seem like a long time, but I know how fast my half marathon came around once I began training for that. It flies by. Until training officially begins, I plan to enjoy my summer, while getting in those maintenance runs. My plan before marathon training is to build a solid base of daily 5 mile runs. That way I can stack on the marathon mileage from there.
My birthday has recently come and gone, and I got a couple running related stuff from my mom and my sister. My mom got me a new running outfit that she said I could use during the marathon. It’s all Fila gear, which is one of my favorite brands. I got a new pair of running capris, a tank top, and a light jacket. My sister got me a tank top that says, “Will run for Pizza”. Which is so true. As a matter of fact, it is one of the things I always crave after a race. (Fellow runners, we all know this to be true)
Everyone, go out there and enjoy the rest of this beautiful weekend! And Happy Father’s Day to all of the amazing fathers out there as well! Check back with you guys soon.
