Today marks 2 week until the half-marathon. I conquered my peak week of training, and I’m ready.
Yesterday was my longest training run, 13 miles. I actually ran the extra tenth of a mile to make it race distance, and I finished in 2:15:50. Now that peak weak is over, it’s finally time to taper! This past week I ran 37 miles. This upcoming week it drops down to 25 miles in order to get me recovered and rested before the race. Also, I received my race packet in the mail on Thursday! Love my bib.
My new running shoes also came on Friday, and I absolutely love them! I can finally retire my Everlast shoes. My ankles were beginning to suffer as a result of the shoe wear, and If I had continued to use them it may have lead to injury. Definitely not something I need to be dealing with right now. I am now using the Asics Gel-Contend 3 running shoes. They are pretty comfortable, and I feel good running in them. The ankle rises up a bit higher than my last shoe, but I have no issues with rubbing. I can’t wait to run my first long
distance race with them.
The last thing there is to report, is that I have registered for another long distance race. Ladies and gentleman, I will be running my first marathon in November…The Philadelphia Marathon! That morning I registered, I was shaking after I submitted the form. There is no turning back now. I am thrilled to be participating in this race, and I’m hoping to run in the NYC marathon next year. I don’t plan to begin marathon training until June or July so in the meantime I’ll probably run some local 5k’s. As I begin to wrap up my journey to my first half-marathon, I will soon beginning a new one leading up to my first marathon! Great things are in store for me this year, and I am glad to share with all of you!
