There’s something about picking the right music to run with. Since I started running back in 2012, it has been a lot of trial and error compiling the greatest songs to make my running more effective. Some people opt out of music during their runs, and that’s fine too. There are times when I also don’t use music, or I simply turn the volume down in order to focus more on my breathing, or running in general. Below is my current playlist, and the reasoning behind why I chose each song.
.U2 “Every Breaking Wave”- Remember when U2’s album “Songs of Innocence” was downloaded to millions of people’s Iphones? When I was running the Garden State Plaza 5k a few weeks back, this song somehow made it’s way into my Nike running app and I ended up enjoying it. The song came on randomly during the race, and literally though to myself, “Oh, this is nice”. So I repeated it a few more times. Nice song to hear while you’re breezing through mile 2.
.Big Country “In a Big Country”- This song is just so uplifting. If you listen to the lyrics, it’s so motivational. I have crossed many finish lines to this song. There’s something about the lyric, “I’m not expecting to grow flowers in the desert, but I can live and breathe and see the sun in wintertime” that is just so delightful.
.Arcade Fire “Keep the Car Running” -Came across this one on the Songza music app during one of my elliptical workouts.
.Lecrae “Walk With Me”- Definitely one of those songs that keeps you pushing forward. I discovered it during UFC 193. It was Valarie Letourneau’s walkout song.
.C+C Music Factory “Just a Touch of Love”- Remember that scene from Sister Act when they were doing positive things for the community? This was that song. Great pacer song, and altogether fun to listen to.
.Robert Tepper “No Easy Way Out”- By far one of my favorites. This song keeps me going, especially when it gets tough. Not to mention this is probably one of the greatest tracks out of all of the Rocky films.
.Bill Conti “Gonna Fly Now”- No explanation necessary. Unless you are a hermit and have never seen Rocky.
.Twin Atlantic “Free”- Another motivational track. Kinda gives you the feeling that you can do anything, even when people doubt you. This is definitely in my top 3 on this playlist.
And there you have it!
